The Mundane Artist

"Whoever the homeland may belong to, it is not merely a piece of geography. It is also not just history. Nor is it the rivers of the region, or the mountains. It is all those things that keep getting absorbed in your very being whether you want it or not. It constantly nurtures your mind, heart and soul. Keeps it alive ... It is our land that gives us a vision. Gives us strength to see our country and see beyond it. To connect with our place and times." - Krishna Sobti, Author of Daar Se Bichudi (English translation: Memory's Daughter)

"If we lived in a State where virtue was profitable, common sense would make us good, and greed would make us saintly. And we'd live like animals or angels in the happy land that needs no heroes. But since in fact we see that avarice, anger, envy, pride, sloth, lust and stupidity commonly profit far beyond humility, chastity, fortitude, justice and thought, and have to choose, to be human at all . . . why then perhaps we must stand fast a little - even at the risk of being heroes." - Sir Thomas More, Act 2, A Man For All Seasons.
